Land Acknowledgment

The Ottawa Anticolonial History Tour acknowledges that the cities of Ottawa/Gatineau are located on the unceded, unsurrendered territory of the Anishinàbe Algonquin People. The Algonquin people have lived on and cared for this land since time immemorial. Our project aims to contribute to telling part of the true story of the Algonquin People, recognizing their role as the customary keepers and defenders of the Ottawa River Watershed. We acknowledge the historical oppression faced by the original Peoples in what is now known as Canada and believe in the importance of sharing and preserving these histories as part of our collective healing and decolonization journey.
